INTERNET

As all the other humans’ discoveries, Internet was born for different reasons from the ones it was created for. It was born 30 years ago after that Pentagon noticed that the U.S.A. missile system of defence had a weak point. It would have been sufficient to block up the communication among the computers to isolate wide zones of the country to prevent the answers coming from the Defence.
Only a few years have passed and Internet has now more than one hundred thousand million of users all around the world. Thanks to Internet development, several firms have chosen this communication tool to increase their trades. Internet has finally got people’s approval and its growth is uncontrollable. This success is due to its easy way of use and to all the good advantages it offers. One of the biggest advantages is to get any kind of information in a short time; you can also exchange opinions and messages with people who are connected from anywhere by a simple local phone call and in a very cheap way. Internet helps work development, you can buy anything you’re looking for. It’s also a great assistance for the students.
As any other mass media, Internet has its negative sides. There are no laws to limit it so people can easily create their own web site in which they can put illegal stuff such as forged programmes, child abuser material and so on. Besides this, Internet makes people stay alone, away from all the others, thers’ no human contact while you’re chatting and this aspect worries us since it increases loneliness.
Besides people who use Internet to work, young people are the most active part of the users. In Italy, school have started letting students surfing but not all the institute have equiped their computer rooms and several schools don’t even have a computer rooms. In our country Internet has had a big development thanks to the free accesses but we aren’t even in the first places in Europe, lots of people don’t even know what Internet exactly is and since it’s our future, it’s an alarming fact. One of the determining cause of this slow development in some parts of the country is that the most parts of the web sites are in English but we have to say that in Italy there are million of sites actually. Anyway, we’re very optimist and we’re sure Internet will become a familiar object also here in Italy, you just have to think to the great success of the mobile phone.
