Harry Potter
1.Who is Harry Potter
Harry Potter is the main character of Harry Potter series. He isn’t a normal boy because he is a wizard. He isn’t a normal wizard in fact he is the only one who survived at Voldemort, the worst wizard of the last 100 years, and the killer of his parents. He is one year old when his parents die and he goes to live with his aunt’s family. However until he is eleven he doesn’t know that he is a wizard nor famous; when Rubeus Hagrid, Hogwarts’ gamekeeper tell him that he is a wizard he is very happy to left his aunt’s house to go to school; there he understand that he is famous in all wizard’s world and at Hogwarts everyone know his name. Here he meets two friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger who would help him in his adventures. There are countless professors and friends that strike us for their variety: among them there is Sirius Black, Harry’ s godfather, who will meet Harry in the third book but who will die in the fifth book. Every book talks about one Harry’ s year at Hogwarts, and then there are seven books: every year Harry will meet Voldemort or his Death Eaters.
2.When I started reading
When I was eight I was a typical girl who hated reading; then my mother bought a book for me, named “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. There was a dedication on the first page “Hoping that you will read it all. Mum”. I was very sceptic because I had never read a book and that was very long! However when I started to read I was thrilled with it and I read the book in two weeks! My mother was so surprised that ran to buy the second book, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and then the third, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” when the fourth “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, was published I was ten years old and I went to buy the fifth, “Harry Potter and Order of Phoenix” alone. I can say that Harry Potter has grown up with me: in the sixth book he is sixteen, just like me.
3.The next episode: the last one
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final book in Harry Potter series. The title of the book was announced on 21th December 2006 and it will be published in English-speaking countries on 21th July of this year. J. K. Rowling has said that this is her favourite book of the entire series, even if two important characters will die. Probably I will read the book first in English, as for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, because in Italy it will be published some months later. All of Harry Potter’s fans are looking forward to the came out of this new book, because after this there won’t be anymore!
4.The book and the films
Harry Potter’s books are so famous that there are also some films about them. The first film, of course, is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, that came out in 2001 and had a lot of success. Harry Potter is played by Daniel Radcliffe, Ron Weasley by Rupert Grint and Hermione Granger by Emma Watson. The films reproduce the books perfectly: the actors are very similar to the characters of the books, the setting is appropriate and the plots are identical, except sometimes. The fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, will come out on 13th July 2007. I’m looking forward to see this film, and the day that I will see it I will be very excited!
5.Why I like Harry Potter
When I read Harry Potter I forget everything else; his wizarding world exists together with ours, and there are many magical elements analogous to things in the non-magical worlds. The world of Harry Potter has gained immense popularity and commercial worldwide success: the books have been translated in 63 languages and have sold over 325 million copies over the world.
6.The author
Joanne Kathleen Rowling has written fictions since she was a child. Born in 1965 she grew up in Chepstow and she studied French and Classic at the Exeter University, then moved to Portugal to teach English as a foreign language, before settling in Edimburgh. The idea for Harry Potter occurred to her on the train from Manchester to London, and by the time she had arrived at King’s Cross many of the characters had taken shape. During the next five years she outlined the plots for each book and began writing the first in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She has become the richest writer in literary history and some people say that she is richer than Queen Elizabeth II. However her books’ series have faced a number of controversies. Most of them stem from the idea that the magic books promote witchcraft among children which will lead them to follow the occult.
