SIMPLE PRESENT
habitual/repeated actions
(I write; I sit…)
PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
[have/has + past participle]
actions has just finished; we use the “present” perfect to show the present result of the past actions
(have written; have spoken…)
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS
[have + been + present participle]
used to express an action that began in the past and is still continuing
(they have been going out with each other for 9 months…)
PAST PERFECT TENSE
[had + participle]
used to show that an action took place before another one in the past
(Alan had learned English before he came to England; Karl had eaten dinner before he had a shower…)
