Great Britain
The Great Britain is composed by England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is composed by Great Britain and Republic of Ireland.

England
England is the largest and most densely populated part of the United Kingdom.
It is separated from the continent of Europe by the English Channel and the North Sea and is bordered to the north by Scotland and to the west by Wales. Northern England is mountainous; the highest points are in the Lake District, in the northwest. There are hills in southern and southwestern England. Central England is a large plain and most of the eastern part of the country is flat.
The longest rivers are Thames and the Severn. England has a temperate climate with quite cold winters and fairly warm summers. Wet weather is common all trough the year. The capital is London.

Wales
Wales is bordered by the Irish Sea to the north, the Bristol Channel to the south, England to the est and Cardigan Bay and St. George’s Channel to the west.
The capital is Cardiff. Rivers include the Severn, Wye, Teifi and Dee.
The great coalfields and major industries are concentrated in the south, as is most of the population.

Scotland
Scotland is bounded by England (S), the Atlantic Ocean (N and W), and the North Sea (E).
The peak highest of Great Britain is Ben Nevis. The capital is Edinburgh. Principal rivers are the Clyde, Forth, Dee, Tay and Tweed.

Ireland
Ireland is separated from Great Britain by the North Channel, the Irish Sea and St. George’s Channel.
It’s divided politically into Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Heavy rains account for the brilliant green grass that makes Ireland the “emerald isle”. The longest river is the Shannon.

Northern Ireland
The capital is Belfast. Farming is the principal occupation. Ship building, food processing, and the manufacture of textiles are the leading industries. About three fifths of the population is Protestant and one third is Catholic.

Republic of Ireland
The capital is Dublin. Agriculture, primarily the raising of livestock and poultry, is the primary economic activity; crops include flax, oats, wheat, turnips, potatoes, sugar beets and barley. Tourism is the second largest source of income. Industry produces linen and laces, food products, and textiles, particularly wool. Gaelic and English are the official languages, but English is more widely spoken. About 95% of the population is Roman Catholic, but there is no established church.
