SO WE'LL GO NO MORE A ROVING
So we'll go no more a-roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon is still as bright.
For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And Love itself have rest.
Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we'll go no more a-roving
By the light of the moon.
COMMENTO
The poet says that they won't wander any more during the night, despite the fact that the heart is still in love and the moon is still shining.
The author compares the out wearing action of the sword on the sheat to that of the soul on the breast. It means that desire can weaken the body and the will so the heart ( that is passion ) must pause and have a rest ( must be quiet ).
Then although the night is made for loving and it is too short; Byron says that they have to finish to go wondering by the light of the moon.
