Summary of Macbeth, a play by W. Shakespeare
This is a play which deals with Macbeth, a Scottish general who was coming back from an important battle with Banquo, (another general) and met three witches who predicted him that he would become sir of Cawdor and then King. First he didn’t believe the witches but when on his return King Duncan made him sir of Cawdor he made up his mind. So he invited Duncan to have dinner at his home, and that very same night he killed him, with the help of his own wife, blaming the King’s guardians for the murder. Malcolm and Donalbain, the two sons of Duncan ran away from Scotland fearing for their lives. Thus Macbeth became King but life was not easy for him and Duncan’s sons, helped by English noblemen (among whom was Mac Duff, sir of Fife) declared war on Macbeth to take over Scotland. The witches had foretold this event to Macbeth saying: «When the wood will move against you, then you’ll be over and you’ll be killed by a man not born from a woman». That man was Mac Duff whose wife and son were killed in behalf of Macbeth because he was born by a Caesarean birth. The moving wood was Mac Duff’s army whose men had taken branches from the trees to camouflage themselves. In the end Lady Macbeth went mad and committed suicide; Mac Duff killed Macbeth and Malcolm became King of Scotland.
