This story is situated in America in 1930.
Three children was very friends but one day one of them, Leonard, fall in a dangerous illness.
After thirsty years one of the other two friends become a doctor in fact he call Dr. Sayers.
Now he is disoccupated so he go to the Camdbridge Neurogical Cronical Hospital to look for a job as Doctor.
Dr Sayers spoke with two doctor of the hospital. In the first time they haven’t wanted to engaged him because he didn’t have clinical experience but he worked as a resurch.
But they engaged him because in the hospital they nedded some doctor.
Dr Sayers is a man around 40 years old, he is alone and he lives in a semi – deateched – house with a dog and many plants, in fact he like to have experiments with the plants.
The first day of his job he saw Lucy, a catatonic old lady. After some minuts he saw that Lucy took the glasses that fell down; so he understood that she had the reflex. This is true for the other catatonic patience too.
He saied this to the other doctor but only a young girl doctor listen him.
One day Dr Sayers found out a doctor who was walking on this case many years ago.
So went to the house of the old doctor and he said that some patience who had this illness died, some is in catatonic so after many studies he understood there is a virus who hit some people thirsty years before.
In the days after that Dr Sayers saw many other patience and they are as Lucy. Among this patience he found the old friend leonard and he was in catatonic too.
So the doctor went to Leonard’s mother and she told the story of her son.
She said that he was eleven years old when a day he came back house from the school,he didn’t say any word and he fall in trans on a chair. When he didn’t have this strange case of trans; Leonard read many books but when he is 20 years old he fell in full trans.
In the day after that Dr. Sayers had many experience with this illness people and he saw each of them had some reflex; in fact they react to different things such as the help of the other people, the music etc..
Then Dr. Sayers understood that the patience have a life inside of them in fact Leonard write a message to the doctor and it was the name of a writer who wrote a book where he told about a panther in a cage.
During a conference about the Parkinson he thought: if he give to his patience the L-DOPA, the medicine for the Parkinson, they can go out of their catatonic.
So he went to the director of the hospital and he explained his theory.
The director accepted after a long time but he gave the permission only for Leonard because the L-DOPA was very expensive.
Leonard took the L-DOPA and when the doctor gave him the medicine; during the night Leonard woke up and he went to playroom himself.
After a few days Leonard walked and spoke, but when he saw him on the mirror he was surprised of his body because he didn’t realize that the time passed.
When he was in force; Dr Sayers took him around the Bronx and Leonard was surprised of the change of the world.
As Leonard went out of the catatonic, Dr Sayers wanted to expand the cure to all the patience; but he needed of the money. So he gave a conference and he told about his experience and the people gave him some money.
Dr Sayers gave the L-DOPA to all patience and they came out of the catatonic; but not all the patience liked this thing because many things changed and someone lost his relations.
Leonard was worried too; in fact he wanted to go out to knows other people and to saw the world; moreover he saw a girl and he fell in love for her.
So Dr Sayers asked at the conference of the doctor that Leonard can to go out alone but they didn’t give him the permission.
When Leonard knew the answered of the doctor, he became to had a nervous tic and to walked and spoke bad.
He understood that the catatonic is going to returned, he went to greet the girl who he had known some days before and he danced with her.
After that he went in catatonic and all patience with him; this because they hadn’t accepted that the time was passed and all was changed.
The positive thing of this is: that the people understood that this poor patience have a life in their body and the other people must to take cure of them.
SETTING
This story situated in the U.S.A; in the Neurogical Cronical Hospital in Cambridge. He happened about 1950/60 when there was a virus that caused the catatonic to the people as he cut.
PRINCIPAL PERSONAGES:
DR SAYERS: he is a man around 40 years old and he is an only man. He was unemployed and he went to look for a job in the Cambridge hospital.
He lived in a semi – deateched - house with a dog. He likes to play piano and he like very much to study the plants too.
He studied the catatonic ill man and he found a cure for them; but he didn’t operate.
LEONARD: he is a man around 30 years old and he had been in catatonic since he was eleven.
He lived in the cronical hospital of Cambridge and Dr Sayers helped him to went out of the catatonic for a small period.
But at the and he already became a catatonic man.
COMMENT OF THE RESEARCH
C think that the research is a good thing if he stay in the limits; but when it wants to surpass the nature, how in this case; it became a dangerous things and the man can to lose the control of it.
