1066 is the only date in the history of England that all remember.
This is the year of the Norman conquest.
This people was “people of sea”, dangerous adversaries for the Europeans.
In 911 they joined him France, and to their command there was ROLLONE.
A contract was founded: it foresaw that the Norman head (ROLLONE) it had to convert him to the Christianity.
This way he was baptized to Rois.
The Norman ones were not good Christians, but they dealt him with to restructure the basilicas and the monasteries.
They got so the trust of the Church that dressed again a big political value in that period.
This people in the turn of 100 years:
- it was converted to the Christianity;
- they spoke French;
- they devoted him to the arts;
- they started to devote themselves to the reading and the layout of legends:
The most famous said that the greatest commander would have been born under a bad star.
This way it was...
"... the duke Robert had a relationship with the daughter of a farmer, from which a child was born: William.
To the death of his father, he inherited his kingdom.
William had the nature of his predecessor. ROLLONE.
It coined a new strategy of fight: it faked to retire himself for then to again attach of surprise.
It had a good political vision: he built two monasteries to Caen gathering around varied villages to a monastery.
Contemporarily to the growth and the political development of William, in England a based administrative system was affirmed on a Land tax, it didn't leave place to the evaders.
But this same country was crossing a period of dynastic crisis.
William vindicated dynastic rights in how much cousin of the ex king was: EDWARD IL CONFESSOR.
when Edward died, his brother-in-law made him crown king, and he assumed the name of King Harold.
William succeeded in making sure himself the support of the pope covering with mud Harold.
he attested that Harold had destroyed a pact.
The garrison of William was constituted by 600 man and 700 horse: docile, brave and aggressive:
- DOCILE: they didn't have to bother him;
- BRAVE: they had to keep on also fighting from wounded.
there was the war between Harold and William October 14 th 1066 and it divided it in two phases:
- first phase: it ended with the victory English and with the diffusion of the false news of the death of William;
- second phase: it began with the reappearance of William to the cry of "we will Win In Name Of God."
Harold hurt:
- first hypotheses affirmed that it was wounded to an eye,
- recent criticisms affirm that he has been stricken to the abdomen.
Harold died.
25-12-1066 happened the crowning of William as king of England near the abbey of Westmister.
but really during the celebration of the rite, the abbey was stricken from an accidental fire bursted in the back of the church.
In the first five years of kingdom, he built 200 castles imposing the terror in the near countries.
its politics aimed to dispossess and to destroy what belonged to the past.
It submitted the management of his possessiones in Normandia to his wife Matilde.
It made to coin the DOMESDAY BOOK: a cadastral register.
In England with the conquest of the Norman ones, the language became an it mixes among the Old English and the French aristocracy.
The tied up words to the administration and the feudal hierarchy, were all French ones.
In the 1067 William it died.
To his death he was contained in a sarcophagus that then exploded provoking a pestilential odor.
Now of William a rib remains, only that has succeeded to withstand the innumerable robberies…”
