The cathedral-building campaign
in England covered the mid-thirteenth
century and was encouraged by
various reasons like the recent
construction of new roads and bridge
which facilitated the transportation
of materials.There were also a
variety of labourers and craftsman
created by the urban growth and the
ecclesiastical incomes increased a lot
because of the grater ability in
management and administration.
English Gothic architecture can be
divided into 3 periods.1175-1250.
the early gothic period like the
wells cathedral which become the
example of the new trend in British
cathedrals.1250-1300 the Decorated
Period is characterized by the artistic
inventions ad in particular by the
elaborate and ornate traceries.
The innovation was deeply
influenced by contact with Islam and
Mongols.1350-1400,the Perpendicular
period,called per. Because of its rigid
exterior lines,prove the Egyptian
influence in English architecture.
There were new decorative vaulting
techniques and a lot of fan vaults.
This period was the standard for
cathedral building till the Reformation.
