Testo

Romanzo

Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay (creta) to mould me man., did I solicit thee from darkness to promote me...?”
Maggio 1816: sorellastra of Mary the Shelley, Claire Clairmont, become the lover of lord Byron, convinces the spouses Shelley to follow it to Geneva. The rainy time often confines dwelling and these occupy the free time reading German history of translate ghosts in French. Byron then proposes to compose same they one history of ghosts: all begin to write, but Mary has not endured the inspiration. While the long conversations of the men concern on the nature of the principles of the life, on Darwin, the galvanism, the possibility to assemble one creature and to instill in it the life. Such thoughts trigger the imagination of Mary and carry to the incubus that is to the origin of the great gothic myth: one student that is knelt down of flank to the creature who has assembled; creature who, thanks to one some force, begins to show signs of life. Mary begins the decided story to recreate that terror that same it has tried in the incubus: happened of the scientist in animating the creature terrorizzato it and it would be escaped from its job, hoping that, abandoned to if same, the being would be died; but the creature remains abashed from its solitudine (“Devil had its companions who admired it and encouraged; but I am alone”) and I would have intentional of the explanations, similarly to those of Adam of the Paradise Lost di Milton that appear at the beginnig of the text: “Did the request thee, Maker, from my Clay (clay) to mould me man., did solicit thee from darkness to promote me…” The husband pushes Mary to mainly develop the history that comes continued in England

The novel that generates the name of doctor the Victor von Frankenstein and the personage of the creature, often remembered like Monster of Frankenstein is this, which to popular level is (erroneously) remembers to you under the same name. The first objective of the author seems had been that one to attack the “delirium of omnipotent of the man whom it wants makes similar to God becoming he same creator”. It is probably thanks to the figure of the monster, expression of the fear, to the diffused time, for the technological development, than the novel it has become immortale. Frankenstein is one of myths of the literature just because it sinks its roots in the human fears. The “creature” is the example of the sublime one, of the “various one” that in how much such cause terror. From the publication of the book, the name of Frankenstein has entered in the popular culture, in literary within, cinematographic and television. Moreover it is often used, by extension, for example negative in that bioetico, alluding to the fact that the aforesaid doctor completed illicit or ethically debatable experiments.
Prometeo
The subtitle it of the novel, the modern Prometheus (The modern Prometheus), alludes to the aspiration of the scientists of being able to make whichever thing technically. There are two versions of the history of Prometheus that Mary Shelley tries join: the Prometheus of Greek mythology, a rebellious enormous that steals the fire from Mount Olympus in order to save the humanity, from which the roman rework of the legend of Ovid (from the Metamorphoses comes drawn the topic of the rebellion against the destiny), in which Prometheus it puts molding on the human beings from the clay.

For the author of what generally greater gothic myth is considered than all the times, the presence of some works like background literary is discounted: in fact it has read to The Italian and The Mysteries of Udolpho di Ann Radcliffe, The Monk di Lewis, Vathek di William Beckford. This last one refuses to admit inside of the sort gotico Frankenstein, for the realistic style of its descriptions, that they produce to an effect the much most powerful one of the style of Beckford. In Frankenstein effects it is various from the traditional gothic in which the natural elements they remain intact. That nature that it so much encircles to us loved in the 1700's comes strongly invaded. She is same Victor to declare of wanting to defeat every disease and human weakness. There are some points but that they can approach Frankenstein to the gothic, like the anxiety given for the lack of one via of escape, the fact that both the protagonists want to torment until death of one of they. As one proceeds towards the end of the history their distances are made more and more interlaces to you, until remembering a Doppelgänger Motiv. The novel can therefore re-enter in a type of modern gothic that illustrates the aspect more important than this kind and that is the lack of the relationship between cause and effect or however its weakness. Subsequently the work has been also considered the first novel of fantascienza.
