Connections between "Ulysses"of James Joyce and "La coscienza di Zeno"of Italo Svevo.

COSCIENZA DI ZENO
Setting in time and space:
Trieste,the story of Zeno Cosini.
Narrative tecniques:
In the novel there is a Doctor S. who informs the reader that the story he's going to read is about an autobiography of his patient Z.Cosini.This man who is the the protagonist and the narrator tells about the events of his life,memories etc.All that Cosini says is controlled by the psychoanalyst.The narration doesn't follow a chronological order in the different chapters.
The subject matter:
The mind of the character,his illness.
Language:
Cosini uses a colloquial in a regular sintax.
Aim:
The loss of common values during the first decades of the 20th century riflected in teh analysis of the character's.
Main characters:
Presented from the inside.

ULYSSES
Setting in time and space:
Dublin,the story develops in Dublin in a single day
Narrative techniques:
Stream of consciousness,that is the recording of the flow of the thoughts happening in the character's mind.They are not controlled by the narrator,but it is the mind of the character that speaks in first person.
The subject matter:
The character's mind.
Language:
The language of the mind; the sentences do not follow the syntacthical rules because past,present and future coexist in the character's mind.
Aim:
The loss of common values during the first decades of 20th century riflected in the analysis of the characters.
