DURING THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MANY CHILDREN WORKED IN FACTORIES AND COALS MINES. CHILDREN COST LESS THA ADULTS. THEY QORKED LONG HOURS, SOMETIMES FROM 5 am TO 9 pm. OF COURSE THEY DID NOT GO TO SCHOOL SOMETIMES THE DIDN’T HAVE A HOUSE AND THEY SLEPT IN THE FACTORIES WHERE THEY WORKED.
TODAY MOST CHILDREN GO TO SCHOOL DURING THE DAY. THEY HAVE FREE TIME TO WATCH TV, TO DO SPORTS AND TO PLAY WITH THEIR FRIENDS. THEY STAY AT SCHOOL FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS. THEY DO NOT USUALLY GO TO WORK UNTIL THEY ARE SIXTEEN. THESE ARE CHILDREN WHO LIVE IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD.
BUT THE SITUATION CHANGES IN THE UNDERDEVELOPED WORLD WHERE BOYS AND GIRL ARE BOUGHT FROM THEIR PARENTS FOR LESS THAN $ 15 SOLD AND RESOLD LIKE FORNITURE, BRANDED, BEATEN AND BLINDED AS PUNISHMENT FOR WANTING TO GO HOME: THEY ARE SLAVES!!!
MANY EXPERTS ESTIMATE THAT WORLD- WIDE, 200 MILLION CHILDREN UNDER 14 ARE WORKING FULL- TIME AND NOT GOING TO SCHOOL.
UNICEF IS THE ABBREVIATION OF THE WORDS “UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN’S FUND”. IT IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AGENCY OF U.N.
IT WAS FOUNDED TO HELP CHILDREN WHO WERE VICTIMS OF WORLD WAR II. IT PROVIDES EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE AND MEDICAL HELP TO CHILDREN ALL OVER THE WORLD ESPECIALLY THOSE LIVING IN POOR COUNTRIES DEVASTED BY WAR OR FAMINE, SUCH AS AFRICA AND ASIA.

CANADA, INDIA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZELAND AND OTHER COUNTREIS MAINLY IN AFRICA WERE PARTS OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE. HOWEVER IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR BRITAIN TO KEEP ALL ITS COLONIES UNDER CONTROL. MOST OF THE COUNTRIES WON THEIR INDEPENDENCE IN THE 20TH CENTURY. NOW THEY ARE PART OF THE COMMONWEALTH, AN ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BRITISSH COLONIES WHICH WAS SET, UP IN 1931 TO ENCOURAGE TRADE AND PRIENDLY RELATIONS AMONG ITS MEMBER. SOME STATES LIKE CANADA AND AUSTRALIA.
