Testo

Keats is probably the greatest member of the second generation of romantic poets. He is romantic in his relish of sensation, his love for greek civilization and his conception of writer, but the synthesis which he made of all these elements was very his own. Keats was born in London in 1795 from a humble but well-off family . the first of five children,he attended a private school in enfield and, following the deaths of his father and mother was apprenticed to become a surgeon. Six years later he leave the profession and devote himself to writing verse. In 1818 Endymion appeared. But this is a difficult period for keats in fact his father and his mother death and his health deterioted rapidly . then he fell in love with Fanny Brawne, but poverty, his bad health made marriage impossible. During the following years keats wrote a series of masterful poems:
The eve of st agnes;characterised by romantic features
The great, ode on a gracian urn, where the poet explores the relations between pleasure and pains and reality and imagination;
The ballad La belle dame sans merci, which displays once more a taste for medieval themes and form;
In 1820 the symptoms of consumption became evident and in september of the same year he died in rome where he was buried.
